YOUR GUIDE

Desert to Summit Adventures is a small, family owned, guide service offering guided rock and mountain climbing trips, as well as climbing instruction and mountain education in Colorado and the desert southwest. Your guide, Chip, has been working full-time as a professional guide for the last 7 years and is dedicated to using that passion and knowledge to show you everything climbing and the mountains have to offer.

Raised in Colorado, Chip began to learn the skills of the outdoors at an early age - starting with his first backpacking trip when he was 5. Getting plugged in with an awesome Boy Scout troop, where Chip earned his Eagle Scout badge, Chip grew in knowledge and experience, putting those to practice by helping plan and lead backpacking, hiking, climbing, snow caving and canoeing trips across the western US. After college, when Chip started to pursue guiding as a profession, he spent some time being trained by wilderness survival expert Tom Brown Jr, and then completed a semester-long course with NOLS, where he was the semester honor grad and recruited to come back and guide for NOLS (an option he declined to pursue a move to Spain).

Chip is certified by the American Mountain Guiding Association as a Single Pitch Instructor, by NOLS-WMI as a Wilderness First Responder, and is a Leave No Trace Master Educator and Trainer. Prior to starting Desert to Summit Adventures, Chip was employed as a senior backcountry guide and lead senior rock climbing guide for a nonprofit organization that works with college students, and has led adventures all over the world including Patagonia, Spain, New Zealand and around the US.

Not just a climber and explorer, Chip has an extensive teaching background and a huge passion for learning, sharing his knowledge and experience, and working with people of all ages and backgrounds.

When not at the crag or in the mountains, Chip enjoys relaxing with his wife and 3 daughters, mountain biking and brewing beer.
